Synopsis:
Magnus Bane leverages his alliances with Downworlders and Shadowhunters on a venture to Victorian London. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.
When immortal warlock Magnus Bane attends preliminary peace talks between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders in Victorian London, he is charmed by two very different people: the vampire Camille Belcourt and the young Shadowhunter, Edmund Herondale. Will winning hearts mean choosing sides?
Review:
So yeah, I totally forgot about this until a while back. But this story. THIS. STORY. It basically answers some questions you wanted to know but never expected to find out, and just painted the whole backstory to the Infernal Devices, basically. Set at the perfect time, with great links back to the other series. Did I mention that I love the Bane Chronicles? I totally think it should be a TV series or something. Miniseries like Sherlock.
However, this series is kind of starting to deprove Magnus in my sight. Because he just seems to have a crush on anyone remotely attractive, though we do see him have certain preferences that help build our image of him. The fashion is fabulous as usual.
In this one we see how Edmund and Linette Herondale came to meet and fall in love, and how Magnus met Camille and how she met Woolsey's brother and all that. Very satifying. Although Edmund's love story was a little rushed IMO. It just seemed a bit too soon.
But this one also showed the Shadowhunters from a Downworlder's point of view, with a loved because we can actually see the arrogance that the Downworlders are always mocking the Shadowhunters about.
SPEAKING OF WHICH
CASSANDRA CLARE CONFIRMED THAT HER NEW SERIES THAT IS GOING TO TAKE PLACE AFTER THE DARK ARTIFICES (WHICH HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN WRITTEN YET) IS GOING TO BE CALLED THE WICKED POWERS!
*flips out*
So
Grade: A. Good story, good background. Didn't like how Magnus just falls in love with everyone.
